But Loose!

That’s how I’ve been knitting today. I came across this blog, Criminy Jickets, where on the Friday, July 21, 2006 entry, Dave has the pattern for the “Garterlac Dishcloth”.

This is what I’ve managed, so far, today. I love this, I see many more of these in my future.
(Sorry the picture is so poor – I don’t think I’m ever going to get along with my camera!)

Have You Any (sock) Wool?

sock yarn afghan

This is an afghan I’m working on, using my left-over sock yarn. The problem is, I’ve run out of sock yarn left overs, with a lot of afghan not yet knitted. Anyone have any left-overs you don’t have any plans for? I’ve discovered it takes 19 yards to knit one square, on size 1 needles.

That’s 72 squares, or 1,368 yards of sock yarn goodness, spread out, looking all gorgeous! Since I’m aiming for 12 squares wide X 24 squares tall, that’s 216 MORE squares to add, or 4,104 more yards of sock yarn I need! YIKES!! Plus some kind of border – I haven’t decided on that yet. I keep hearing the Carpenters hit “You’ve only just begun” in my head.

What I’ve used thus far is superwash fingering/sock weight yarn, 75-80% wool, 20-25% nylon/polyamid. Regia, Opal, Trekking XXL, Lorna’s Laces, that sort of yarn. I’d like to stay with that kind of yarn, but ANY color, or color combination, – the more, the merrier! If you have any sock yarn you’re willing to send off, email me at: lizardk AT lizardknits DOT com and I’ll reply with a mailing address.

I have started another pair of socks. This is the first sock, I’ve gotten up to the ankle.

I’ve started the second sock.

I’m still on the foot, heading for the gusset.

This pattern is from the Six_Sox_Knitalong on Yahoo, it’s call “Scales Skin Socks. I’m using Regia 4 fadig Color #5033. Here’s a close-up of the stitch.

Pretty soon I’ll have one more left-over to add to the afghan!

On The Road, Again

Saturday, March 4th, 2006

Today started at the crack of dawn – literally! I met up with Mary Lee at her place, and we headed south, towards Charlottesville. First, we had breakfast at Bodo’s Bagels. They have very good bagels!

Then we headed for Orchardside Yarn Shop, in Raphine, VA, where Mary Lee, one of my Culpeper Clickers friends, was taking a class on finishing by Edie Eckman.

This is Rusty,

who helps his owners, Carol and Guy, run the shop.

The shop is full to the rafters with lovely yarn, and books, and all sorts of knitterly stuff. I saw Lopi, and Lopi lite, Cascade 220, sock yarn, and shelves and shelves of ribbon yarns, and lots of other stuff I can’t remember the name of. I got some Berroco Glace’ and Berroco Zodiac, both ribbon yarns, to knit a purse. I also finished the Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted slippers I’ve been working on, and I got quite a bit done on my Harmony Mitered Sweater. (The finishing class was 3 hours long).

Then we headed off for lunch, I think the restaurant was called Mama Rowe’s. Very good barbeque. And finally moseyed on home.

I had such a good time!

Tomorrow is the first Sunday of the month, so I’ll be heading north to Reston, VA for a KnitKnutz meeting. I expect I’ll give my new walker another good workout.

More pictures later.

Full Steam Ahead!

I now have BOTH fronts of the Harmony Mitered Cardigan finished. Here they are!

I’m looking forward to tomorrow. I’m going to the Franklin Farms Starbucks for a sit N knit. Coffee and knitting, and most likely chocolate! Can’t get much better than that!

Partially Completed Project, et al

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

I’ve finished the right front of the Harmony Mitered Cardigan, in just over a week.

The pink edges are the crochet chain cast on. So far this has been a fun knit. I like the Sportweight Opal Gems Merino yarn. I haven’t had any problems with splitting. I’ve even gotten a start on the left front.

I also realized that I have a completed knitted object right in front of me on my desk, that I’ve never posted about. I knitted a garter stitch tube from sock yarn left overs.

then I rolled it up, secured it with a rubber band,

and stuck “stuff” like crochet hooks, scissors, and needles in it. A minimal effort at organization on my part! Then my knitter friend Terri, knit and felted a small bowl for me.

So I got rid of the rubber band, and now I have this.

Just my small attempt at order in the universe!
