Felix needs help!

This is Felix.
Felix

My step-daughter forwarded the following email from one of her friends, who is also a dachshund lover.

Howdy everyone! You know what am animal lover I am. I am on a list serve for a dachshund club and rescue in LA and the following tragic case has come to my attention. Usually, if an animal is older or very badly injured it may be kinder to put them to sleep but this dog is young, was hit by a car, suffered a broken leg and, if this is corrected, will likely be adoptable to a loving home and enjoy a good quality of life. Since there is no Bill Gates among us, the money for the surgery (estimated at between $4000 and $ 6000) will likely come from many small donations. If any of you feel the spirit to make a small donation to this cause, it would certainly be something worth considering. Hope you are all well.

Felix is currently at Southern CA Dachshund Rescue. Down at the bottom of their page, there are directions for making a donation.

Donations for Felix can also be made at Wiener Wonderland.

THANKS!

6/18/08 – Update – Felix sees the surgeon tomorrow about his broken bones.

Let Sleeping Dog Lie…………

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Here’s what I just saw on the other side of my office.
Sleepy Red

And just a few feet away I saw this….....
Sleepy Whipper

Whipper is sound asleep with her head hanging off the bed. The top of her head is flat on the floor. I guess this is just one of those canine abilities that I’m not the least bit envious of. I do hope this isn’t giving her nightmares…....

Dachshunds Rule!

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

I found a dachshund joke at Dachshund Gifts. Hope you enjoy!

A wealthy man decided to go on a safari in Africa He took his faithful pet dachshund along for company. One day, the dachshund started chasing butterflies and before long the dachshund discovered that he was lost.

So, wandering about, he noticed a leopard heading rapidly in his direction with the obvious intention of having lunch. The dachshund thought, “OK, I’m in deep trouble now!” Then he noticed some bones on the ground close by, and immediately settled down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat.

Just as the leopard was about to leap, the dachshund exclaimed loudly, “Boy! That was one delicious leopard. I wonder if there are any more around here?”

Hearing this, the leopard halted his attack in mid-stride, and with a look of terror slunk away into the trees. “Whew,” said the leopard. “That was close. That dachshund nearly had me.”

Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree figured he could put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the leopard. So, off he went. But the dachshund happened to spy him heading after the leopard with great speed. The monkey soon caught up with the leopard, spilled the beans and struck a deal for himself with the leopard. The leopard was furious at being made a fool of and said, “Here monkey, hop on my back and see what’s going to happen to that conniving canine.”

Soon the dachshund saw the leopard coming with the monkey on his back, and he thought, “What am I going to do now?” But instead of running, the dog sat down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hadn’t seen them yet… and just when they got close enough to hear the dachshund, he said—
“Where’s that damn monkey? I sent him off half an hour ago to bring me another leopard.”

Update on Noel

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

Terri told me that
A Place to Bark has posted a picture of Noel wearing the cap I knit for her. Go have a look. (THANKS, Terri!)

Not a lot going on this week. I’m still working on
Snuggles.

I’m trying to get enthusiastic about finishing my Harmony Sweater. Mine is the “Fall” color combination.

No leftover sock yarn afghan knitting this week – due to no leftovers.

I’ve been leafing through my sock patterns, trying to figure out which one I want to make next.

I have some lovely “Erika” yarn from Ruby Sapphire Yarns. They don’t seem to have any Erika on their website at the moment, but it is turquoise/lime/purple/claret gorgeousness. I’ll post a picture once I get the socks started.

Finally – YEAH!! – tonight is a Culpeper Clickers meeting, and this Sunday is a Knitknutz meeting

Whipper, reluctantly modeling the cap I knit for Noel. See Noel’s story. I’ll get the cap in the mail in the morning.

Whipper definitely has that “What are you doing to me now?” look on her face!

I just came across this website while reading Lifelong Knitter.

I was going to blog about something else – but that can wait. I’m off to knit a cap.

Finally Finished!

big bag

The thrift store sweater turned into a bag is finally finished. It turned out about as tall as I expected, but much wider than expected.

dogbag

This is Whipper modeling the felted bag. Next, she’s modeling the unfelted bag.

sweater tote

This thing holds way more than I can comfortable tote around, so back to the drawing board! This bag has turned out so big I might see if I can turn it into a bed for Whipper.

Tonight’s dinner was some kind of frozen noodle thing. I asked Whipper if she wanted some of the left over noodles——-

want noodles

I took that for a YES!!

I love to swing the noodles around her snout, and make her work for them. Here she is mid-chomp!

noodle monster

She was quite out of breath and panting after all this, but seemed very satisfied wth the noodles.

Peanut – In Memoriam

Monday, October 9th, 2006

January 1, 1996 – September 30, 2006

Peanut loved food more than anything, and ate with such zest.

You will remain in my heart forever.

I already miss taking care of you – even the nipped fingers, because you wanted the ham I hid your pills in – so badly.

When you were diagnosed with heart disease, I knew your time was short. But I didn’t know how much I’d mss you, until you were gone.

My heart is broken without you, and I miss you more than words can say.

Rest in peace, sweet girl. I hope there really is a “Rainbow Bridge” – I’ll meet you there someday.

And here’s Tom, sans mask.

Tom

All of this happened yesterday at the KnitNutz Meeting in Reston. And yes, Tom had a pattern, an old one from the 60’s? 70’s?. Not sure, but it’s definitely “When good knitting goes bad!”

Here’s Gretchen modeling her Pinwheel Shawl.

Gretchen has more Pinwheel info on her blog

Also the back view.

Here’s Peanut, modeling the only thing I’ve finshed lately – a raspberry colored dog sweater. I still need to get/sew a couple of buttons to hold the back leg strips n place. Thanks for the yarn, Kate!

Finally, here’s a couple of pictures showing why I’ve been worn out and not felt like blogging lately.

Hubby’s classroom has been moved from inside, second floor, to one of the trailers behind the school. Although the maintenance people did the actual box moving, Hubby and “guess who” had to do the packing and unpacking of all that stuff!

Corndog, etc.

corn dog

I’ll bet this is NOT what you expected! We had fresh corn on the cob with dinner, and Peanut really, REALLY wanted some! So I left a few kernals on the cob, and she enjoyed them immensely! Actually, she grabbed the corncob, and tried to take off with it – but I expected THAT move!

Here’s what I’ve been working on the last few days – Snuggles! I spent most of yesterday in the car, and waiting rooms. Hubby had an eye exam/consult wwwwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy over in Fairfax, (nearly Annandale, actually), so I had lots of knitting time to use.

snuggles

These are both log cabin snuggles, they’re in “Mason Dixon Knitting”.

And finally, go take a look at Teri’s site, Radian Lace. She’s been re-doing her knitting links and databases, and, WOW! she’s got a lot of good info on there! Click on “Kickass Knitlinks” – LOVE THAT!! Congratulate her too – she just got a brand new granddaughter!
